The movie’s development began in 2018, and it has announced some famous International faces that will join the cast. Some South African actors and actresses have been lucky enough to join this prestigious production. The Woman King is to make history for some talent as Zozibini Tunzi joins the cast and makes her debut as an actress.
Zozi Tunzi took to her Instagram to announce that she will be part of The Woman King cast. In her post, she talked about how grateful she is to be awarded this opportunity as it is the first one of its kind for her. She posted a picture of herself with the caption:
I am so honored and excited to announce that I have been cast for the film, The Woman King ( @womankingmovie ) . It is a completely new world and first time experience for me so I enter it with the utmost respect and humility. Forever grateful and looking forward ❤ #TheWomanKing
In her comment section, many fans were congratulating the model and applauding her talent. Some wished her the best as she is set to make history with her first role as an actress. The famous beauty queen made history when she won the Miss South Africa title in 2019 and went on to bag the Miss Universe title the same year. That made her the third Miss South Africa to win the prestigious title and the first black woman to win since Miss Angola in 2011.

The Woman King is a movie made in line with the occurrences in the Dahomey Kingdom in the 18th century. The story will show the story of Nanisca and Nawi, who are two female army members. Nanisca is a general, and Nawi is a recruit, but these two women will join forces to fight against invaders who would have taken their people and villages into slavery.
The roles of Nanisca and Nawi will be played by Viola Davis and Thuso Mbedu, respectively. Other South African actresses who will be part of this production are Masali Baduza and Makgotso Monyemorathoe. The role that Zozi will play is yet to be announced.
