Somizi’s cookbook might not be a great book as it is perceived. Some book readers claim to be looking to get refunds as they feel shortchanged by the media personality.
A Twitter user trolled Somizi’s cookbook, Dinner At Somizi’s, and I Am Not A Chef. @PulengMo tweeted, “I bought Somizi’s cookbook, then returned it for a full refund. He had a mogodu and blue cheese recipe, and I knew it wasn’t for me, please. She later said she understood why Somizi said he wasn’t a chef and that Somizi could block her for the tweet.
Information about the book
Dinner With Somizi’s was released in 2021 and became the country’s best-selling cookbook, surpassing European celebrity chef Jamie Oliver’s cookbook, 7 Ways Seven Ideas For Every Day of the week. Somizi’s book retails at R300.
People who agreed with the Twitter user.
Tweeps shared the shocking recipes, which were confusing because the different foods didn’t go well with one another. One of the recipes that shocked the person who first tweeted about this was pineapple salsa. As we all know, salsa is made of tomatoes, cucumbers, chilli and peppers. Another user spoke about Somizi’s tinned fish with beetroot recipe; another said of the star’s pork trotter tacos. Somizi seems to have very wild cousine ideas. One user spoke of trying his gammon recipe for Christmas and not being happy with the results.
Somizi’s fans defended him.
Some of the star’s fans defended Somizi by saying, Somizi is not a chef, and he clearly stated so in the book. Other fans commented on his presentation skills. Some showed pictures of the results from his food and said they were happy with the food. A female user shared that she made Somizi’s chicken foot starter for Christmas, and her family was begging for more.
His ex-husband Mohale Motaung congratulated him when the book was at its peak; Chef Zola Nene and the chef and TV personality Lorna Maseko also congratulated Somizi.
It is improbable for a person with a vibrant personality like Somizi to release a book with simple everyday recipes when there’s nothing simple about his life. The lady was well within her rights to return the book if she felt it wasn’t aligned with her cooking style—different strokes for different folks.
