Bongo Beats was born in Mpumalanga, South Africa. He spend part of his life in Mpumalanga before moving to Soshanguve, Pretoria where his career as a producer kicked off. Bongo Beats has since moved to Johannesburg the entertainment hub.

Bongani Shabangu inherited the love for music from his late grandfather who was also a guitar player. His grandpa exposed him to a lot of music genres and taught him interesting staff about music. Young Bongani gradually fell in love with music and wished to be a musician. As he grew up, he started pursing him interests and several years later, Bongani transformed into Bongo Beats.
