“I have thick skin.” Bheki Cele is not afraid of the death wishes
Bheki Cele is one minister who has managed to create more enemies than friends during the course of his career. Well, he simply does not care as he is not in it to make friends. South Africans have it out for him as they do not go well with his conduct towards police brutality. His recent drive to stop Umjolo, alcohol and especially the ban on New Years’ celebrations have seen Cele getting even more unpopular.
Just how petty are the Minister’s enemies willing to go? Very far we guess. Jackson Mthembu‘s death a few days ago brings Twitter ablaze with tweeps wishing Bheki to have died instead. Normally, one would react to these outcries but not Minister Cele. Calling out his nemesis, Bheki speaks on Power 98.7’s PowerZone.
“I have already laughed off people on Twitter wishing and threatening me with death after the passing of Minister Jackson Mthembu. [I have grown] a thick skin over the years – and such jabs come with the job,” Cele says.
Well too bad for his haters, Cele knows the perks that come with being a law enforcer. The Minister goes on to commend the job well done by his auxiliary.
“SAPS have conducted themselves professionally during the lockdown. Of the 185 000 officers in SA, only a handful are working outside the law and bringing the organization into disrepute. South Africans are excessive when it comes to consuming liquor, this is why SAPS have their hands full when enforcing the alcohol ban,” he adds.
