The former Isibaya actress Lerato Mvelase joins The Wife cast as the second season debuts and gives a great performance as she celebrates 28years since she first appeared on-screen as an actress. Lerato Mvelase is not a new face on South African television screens. She has been in the game for over two decades and has many roles in the bag to prove it.
After the successful prison break of Zandile, the Zulu brothers could sleep well at night. However, The Wife viewers were alarmed for a moment when the prison warden made a roll call and called out Zandile’s inmate number. People were so sure that the secret was going to come out until someone in the cell called back claiming to be the now free Zulu wife.

This new character on The Wife is called Nomusa and is brought to life by Lerato Mvelase. As we later learned, Nomusa had struck a deal with the Zulu brothers to take Zandile’s place. What her angle is, we are yet to know. However, from what we know of her, she was a cleaner at the taxi rank. We are as curious as Mqoqi and Ntsika as to what she was promised to take Zandile’s place.
Lerato Mvelase’s acting career over the years
Lerato has made an excellent start to 2022 as she has already been featured in two new shows. She made an appearance in the new SABC 1 hit new series called 13 weeks to find Mr Right and is now in Showmax’s The wife. In a recent post on her Instagram, Lerato shared with her fans in a heartfelt post how grateful she is to have been active in the industry. She shared how she had never met white people in person till she became an actress. Lerato also shared how grateful she is to work alongside the acting industry’s most prominent producers. She promised her fans that they would soon see her on stage with Antony Coleman.
Mvelase made her debut as an actress in 1994 when she was only 12 years old. However, the actress was famously known for her role in Home Affairs as Katlego, which she played from 2005 to 2009. Besides that role, she has also been in series like Backstage and Mzansi. Due to other commitments as a presenter, she was replaced by Khanyi Mbau as Mbali on Mzansi. Some fans find it ironic that she is replacing Zandile, played by Khanyi Mbau, in the prison cell.
