Tito Mboweni is the current Minister of Finance in South Africa. Mboweni is the first black South African to become Governor of the Reserve Bank of South Africa. He was appointed Minister of Finance on 9 October 2018 succeeding Nhlanhla Nene who resigned.

Mboweni holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours equivalent) degree in Economics and Political Science from the National University of Lesotho in 1985.
In 1987 he obtained a Master of Arts degree in Development Economics from the University of East Anglia in England.
He was awarded the Honorary Doctorate of Economics by the University of Natal in 2001.

Career
Tito Mboweni served under the tenure of the late President Nelson Mandela as the Minister of Labour in the period of 1994–1999. Prior to his Minister of Labour appointment, Mboweni was Deputy Head of the Department of Economic Policy in the ANC. When he became the Governor of the South African Reserve Bank on 8 August 1999, Tito Mboweni resigned from all ANC held positions. He runs the Governor’s office for a decade from 8 August 1999 to 8 November 2009.
Tito was also elected Chancellor of the University of the North-West and was installed as Chancellor on 23 February 2002. The University of Stellenbosch appointed Mboweni Professor Extraordinary in Economics for the period 1 April 2002 to 31 March 2005.
