South African radio and television presenter, actress, DJ and TV producer Dineo Ranaka has chartered a new path in her illustrious career. She is now officially a sangoma after answering the call.
The Ranakas’ reality TV star announced with a picture of herself wearing new clothes of the latest trade.
Ranaka took Instagram to advise her followers about the latest developments in her life with the caption, “On many occasions, they asked. And I eventually said YES. Camagu. Thokoza thongo lami.”
The actress sent rumours into overdrive after first appearing in traditional regalia associated with Sangoma training back in 2019. She did not directly dispel the talks but chose cryptic words “on a spiritual journey to find “purpose and alignment.”
At the time, Ranaka revealed she has a passion for people’s wellbeing and want them to overcome their problems.
Dineo’s sister Manaka did not shed light by commenting ‘lesedi’, which translates to light in English.
South African celebrity sangomas
Ranaka is not the only celebrity sangoma in South Africa, as many other celebrities answered the calling in recent years.
In 2014, the gospel singer did the unthinkable and started his traditional healing journey amidst criticism from her fans and fellow Christian. Bala said his calling was healing either traditionally or through music.
The TV presenter made it known this year that he answered the sangoma calling and joined others in training. He hosts the controversial Nyan Nyan reality show.
The KwaZulu Natal based musician answered the calling in 2016 but is not practising as a sangoma. He initiated to honour her grandmother and to respect her religion and tradition.
Boity is one prominent celebrity who doubles as a sangoma in Mzansi. She answered her calling in 2016, and she revealed she was proud of her decision.
The Skeem Sam actor is a practising sangoma after completing his training. The spirit medium revealed that he has the talent of interpreting people’s dreams.
Like many other sangomas, Nyembe realised she was a sangoma after falling sick. The actress carried out urine tests, and they returned with soil in them. She answered the call, and she became a sangoma.
