The Woman King is coming and is making sure most of the cast are African. That’s befitting since the story is about Africans.

The Woman King is a historical film, the Kingdom of Dahomey, about two female militants, Nanisca played by Viola Davis, a general for an all-female military unit, and Nawi, played by Thuso Mbedu. These women come together to fight against enemies who enslaved their people and destroyed all they loved.

This story is based on a true story from the events in the Kingdom of Dahomey, one of the most powerful States in Africa in the 18th and 19th centuries.

The movie also has Angelique Kidjo, one of the most celebrated musicians in the world and a Grammy award winner.

New African cast members have been revealed for this production.

Zozibini Tunzi revealed she would be joining the cast as well. She will be with other South Africans in the cast, like Thando Dlomo, in the Oprah Learnership academy for girls. Also joining them is Basali Baduza, a South African actress.

Today, Phil Mphela has also reported that Cebelihle Mbambo will also be joining the cast. The young man is only 13 years old, and he will make his acting debut in this massive film. His face might look familiar, and it does because the teenager has been on our screens in advertisements for big brands like OMO, DSTV and Telkom.

The Woman King film showcases African talent.

Zozibini and Cebelihle are both making their acting debut as actors in this film. Zozi couldn’t contain her excitement, and she shared the news herself on her Instagram page, saying.

“I am so honoured and excited to announce that I have been cast for the film, The Woman King. It is a completely new world and a first-time experience, so I enter it with the utmost respect and humility. Forever grateful and looking forward ❤.”

Zozibini made history when she won the Miss Universe title with her short natural-looking hair. The woman was appreciated by all, especially young black women who felt that they identified with her and that a new beauty standard had been set without wearing weaves.

Zozi is making a name for herself in the showbiz industry; on the 30th of September 2021, she announced that she was the new face of Lux, the soap.

Her followers on social media have expressed how proud they are of her. Congratulations to all.

The Woman King will be released on 16th September 2022.
