Springbok captain Siya Kolisi’s documentary, ‘Rise: The Siya Kolisi Story’, has won the top award in the documentary category of the Audience Awards at the 2023 Tribeca Film Festival in New York. The documentary, directed by Tebogo Malope, was screened at the popular film festival this past week.
The Documentary
‘Rise: The Siya Kolisi Story’ is a documentary based on Siya’s life, which was released this year. According to IMDB, the synopsis of the documentary reads: “The story of the first black South African rugby captain who against all odds led the South African national team to win the 2019 World Cup Rugby and in turn unites the country.”

Reception by American Audience
Earlier in the week, Rachel Kolisi revealed via her Instagram that the documentary depicting her husband’s life was well received by the American audience. “Spent the day with our Roc Nation fam today in NY. Also went to a SOLD OUT Tribecca screening of Rise the Siya Kolisi story,” Rachel revealed on Instagram post.
