Character replacement is done when one falls out with the producers or when there is a breach of contract. Here are some of the shocking Soapie opera actors replacement which made headlines in 2020.
Sphelele Mzimela replaced by Nompumelelo Ngwenya
Celebrated Isibaya actress Sphelele Mzimela who played the role of Mazaza on Uzalo was replaced by Nompumelelo Ngwenya. Mzimela was fired after she fell pregnant.
Rumour has it that the star actress collapsed on set, and her contract got terminated when producers found out she was pregnant with twins.
Fundiswa Zwane replaced by Brenda Mhlongo
Fundiswa Zwane was so spectacular on Imbewu The Seed as KaMadonsela that when the channel announced that Brenda Mhlongo would replace her, her fans threatened to boycott the show on social media. And her fans were spot on as Mhlongo is still failing to fill Zwane’s shoes on the show.
Mhlongo is drowning as KaMandonsela on ETV’s Imbewu The Seed. Some fans of Zwane even suggested that MaMlambo from Uzalo would’ve been a better replacement, as the two actresses look more similar and play similar roles.
Zwane apparently left because of contractual issues with the producers of the show.

Khathu Ramabulana replaced by Burnett Gededger
The best thing a producer should do when a great actor leaves their show is to kill the character. For example; when Malefu left The River, Phathu’s team knew they wouldn’t be able to find another Motshidi Motshekgwa and simply killed her character.
Ramabulana got replaced by Gededger without warning recently on Muvhango and angered fans on social media. Not only does the actor seem younger than Ramabulana and his on-screen wife, but he appears pretty clueless 90% of the time. Viewers of the show have even called him Rendani’s ben 10.
Ernest Msibi replaced by Bongani Madondo
Ernest Msibi is incomparable and irreplaceable!
Bongani Madondo who plays restaurant manager, Sfiso on Skeem Saam recently shocked Uzalo fans when he played Amos instead of Ernest Msibi. Madondo is so unconvincing, unattached, and completely cringing to watch as Amos that you almost want to throw eggs every time he appears on the screen as Amos.
Fans have requested that he remains on Skeem Saam where he excellently plays Sfiso.
