Benjamin Aidoo is the leader of the dancers and he says he decided to do choreography lessons after he identified his market niche, pallbearer dancing. Aidoo says he committed to training and buying good outfits for his employees to make sure they appeal to the public.
For mourners wanting a more upbeat funeral, the troupe turns coffin carrying to a performance. “I decided to add choreography to it so if a client comes to our premises we just ask the client if the want it solemn or do you want a bit of a display, or you want some choreography on it? They just ask and we do it,” said Aidoo, the leader of the group during an interview with BBC
“These people when they take your beloved ones to the final resting place, they also dance so i decided to give my mother a dancing trip to her maker,” said one of the customers.
Benjamin has employed over 100 young men and women and he says its a way of creating employment to the youth. He also invests heavily in the outfits of the team. Troupes like these are growing in Ghana and other parts of Africa as funerals are an important occasion in the African culture.
