Imprisoned journalist Hopewell Chin’ono is seriously ill in prison.
His lawyer Beatrice Mtetwa sent a doctor to prison and is awaiting an assessment. Chin’ono has been detained for over a month for Tweeting in support of the 31 July protest planned by opposition parties in Zimbabwe.
One of his lawyers Doug Coltart has confirmed Hopewell is not well and requires medical attention.
I have just visited Hopewell Chin’ono at Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison and can confirm that he is unwell. We have alerted his private doctor who will be attending to him immediately and we will act accordingly based on the medical assessment and advice
He has been denied bail multiple times and is currently locked at Chikurubhi maximum prison in Harare.
The organiser of the demonstrations Jacob Ngarivhume is also locked up.
The journalist has been denied warm food despite the court ruling in his favour after being denied food from outside the prison and private medical care.
Chin’ono hopes to get access to a doctor.
