Cele demands report on failure to arrest Premier for showing up maskless
Everyone has done their part regarding the issue of Mpumalanga Premier‘s maskless episode while in public and on national television. All is done and dusted except for the police officer who fails to arrest the Premier at the time of offense. Bheki Cele is demanding a report from the responsible officer for failure to carry out a duty as per the regulations regarding Covid-19.
“I have received a report from Commissioner Zuma. I am happy with the report. On Wednesday, the commissioner escorts the premier to the police station where she gets a notice to appear before a court,” Cele says.
“The premier opts to pay a fine. This is a magistrate’s allowable fine. The premier pays the fine and her fingerprints were taken. She created a criminal record for herself,” he adds.

“A total of 13 600 people face arrest since December 28 when it becomes mandatory for people to wear a mask. The premier is among them. All of them know about their obligations to wear masks. Others who in the same scenario, go after managing to get a mask,” Bheki Cele confirms.
However, the police officer in question is still not out of the woods. Cele is expecting to see a report addressing the elephant in the room.
