Amanda Black is a South African multi award-winning  Afro-soul singer and guitarist. Her real name is Amanda Benedicta Antony, and she was born on the 24th of July   1993 in Mthatha, Eastern Cape, South Africa. Amanda was raised by a single mother together with several siblings. Most importantly, she is famous for her 2016 hit song ‘Amazulu’. Life experiences inspire most of her songs. This way, most people can easily relate to her music. Early Life and Education

Amanda Black grew up in the Eastern Cape where she started singing at the age of 6 in church and at school. After that, at the age of 12 she began competing in talent hunts which exposed her to stage performance. Later on, their family moved to Port Elizabeth when she was 16 years old. She was enrolled at the Kabega Christian School where she completed her high school studies. After attaining satisfactory results, Amanda Black went on to study Music Education at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University. In pursuit of her dream, she participated in three editions of the South African Idol. She became fans’ favorite during Idols Season 11 in which she made it to the top 7. In January 2016 her family relocated to Johannesburg. During her stay there, she was approached by Ambitiouz Records who offered her a recording contract.

After being signed to Ambitiouz, the label released her official  first single ‘Amazulu’ which was an instant hit. The Amazulu video had a whooping 4 million views on YouTube in a short period. Afterwards, she dropped her debut album ‘Amazulu’ which was certified platinum in only three weeks. The album was composed of tracks like ‘Separate, Uzobuya, Mna nawe, Sabela free and thank you. Consequently, the Amazulu album earned her nominations in 5 categories at the 16th edition of the Metro FM Music Awards. Similarly, she got nominations in 5 categories at the 2017 South African Music Awards. Later on,  she also collaborated with artists including label mates A Reece, La Sauce and Miss Pru DJ as well as Jaziel Brothers. In 2017, she dropped a single titled ‘Kahle’ and soon left Ambitiouz Records.

Moving on, after 2 years, in 2019 she was signed by Sony Music Entertainment and released her much anticipated album title ‘Power’. As a result of professional artistry, the lead single ‘Thandwa ndim’ peaked at #1 on the iTunes charts the day of release. The features on this album were incredible, for instance, she featured  the superstar Antony Hamilton. In addition, other tracks include Egoli, power and Africa.
