IN OTHER NEWS:

Uzalo viewers received some good news during the festive season. The hit soapie’s contract with SABC1 is set to be renewed for another three years, dispelling rumours that their contract would be cancelled.

Rumours were rife that the soapie would not see their contract renewed as a result of bad performance in terms of viewership.

According to the national broadcaster, the extension of Uzalo’s contract is the first time a long contract has been given to such a production of such nature, signalling SABC’s intend to lengthen its hugely successful relationship with Uzalo.

SABC1’s programmes manager Sanele Zondi said Uzalo has earned their right to have such a contract.

The broadcaster said they are satisfied with the record-breaking soapie.

“Its performance speaks for itself. The property has broken a set of records in the industry for a soapie or a long-running drama series. It’s the youngest entry in the SABC stable and it is phenomenal what it has managed to achieve despite the challenges this year has shown not only in the broadcasting landscape but the country as a whole,” she said.

The channel revealed that they awarded Uzalo with a long contract so as to enable to the production team to have ample time to invest in good storylines and production capabilities knowing their broadcasting end is secured.

The new season of Uzalo will begin airing in March.
