Just last week four police officers were arrested in Bulawayo for demanding a bribe to release a suspect from custody. During the same week another police officer was video taped pocketing a bribe at a roadblock. The people not expected to be on the wrong side of the law are the ones being involved more than anyone else. Is this a reflection of how bad the economic situation is in Zimbabwe? Will Zimbabwe ever stop corruption when law enforcers are also being the major parties in it?
The lockdowns have worsened the economic situation in Zimbabwe since April 2020. With most of the businesses closed, people have resorted to bogus ways of making money including the police officers. If Robert Boora had to risk stealing goods worth ZWL$18000 which is less than the 2021 poverty datum line which currently stands at ZWL$24 935. This is also a sign of how poor and how bad the economic situation is.
