The 29 year old briefly appears in the Mamelodi magistrate court where his case is postponed to the 22nd of February after refusing to apply for bail. Protesters stood outside the court protesting against the accused’s bail grant.

Kgothatso Tshabalala, the 11 year old was found dead with a slashed throat and multiple stabs last Tuesday. The girl’s mother, Nthabiseng Khanyi aged 38 narrates how everything panned out. All hell breaks loose when Nthabiseng refuses to listen to Chauke’s message from God. “He called me on Monday saying he had a message from God for me. I told him I was tired and would listen to the message the next day. He was very aggressive and angry,” Khanyi says.
“I prayed with him in our prayer group. People saw us together and assumed that I’m dating him and I was not,” she adds. Chauke refuses to take no for an answer to which she goes to Khanyi’s house and receives the same response. Returning the next day, Chauke disappears with Khanyi’s daughter who is later found stabbed to death.
Speaking on her niece’s death, Mahlodi Makwane says, ” I want justice to be served and the accused to rot in jail for “killing my niece like a dog.”
