Mzansi Magic Responds To Reports That Isibaya Will Be Cancelled
Mzansi Magic has responded to reports they are set to cancel Isibaya after eight seasons.
The soapie which is in its eighth season faces the ax according to reports if numbers do not improve.
On Monday there were reports that the show will not be renewed for a ninth season due to low viewership numbers.
When contacted for comment, Director of Local Entertainment Channels at M-Net, Nomsa Philiso told Savanna News that an official announcement will be made in due course.
She, however, said the review is not exclusive to Isibaya but all shows that are being broadcast on Mzansi Magic. Nomsa Philiso said the reviews are standard practice in the entertainment and television industry. She could however divulge if things are looking good or bad for Isibaya.
“Every year before we recommission the great shows that are broadcast on Mzansi Magic, we conduct a review of all shows, using a variety of metrics as standard practice in the industry, to ensure the decision to renew contracts is well informed. The review is not exclusive to Isibaya, and an announcement will be made in due course.”
Whilst fans of the show did not take the news that Isibaya is set to be canceled soon lightly, neutrals believe it is time Mzansi Magic canned the show.
A section of South Africans believes the creators of the show have been missing the plot for some time now. The show’s storyline is based on a rivalry between families in the taxi industry.
A number of notable stars have left the show this year and these include Nomzamo Mbatha, Jessica Nkosi, Siyabonga Thwala, Muzi Mthabela and Menzi Ngubane.
