ZIMSEC unfairly remunerates invigilators with plates of sadza
Zimbabwe Schools Examination Council (ZIMSEC) last week paid some Ordinary level examinations invigilators with plates of sadza instead of cash. This has led to some teachers brushing off invigilation duties.
The ZIMSEC examinations have spiked into 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The lockdowns foisted to curb the spread of the virus also altered the examination dates.
In Karoi some teachers went tools down last week in fear of exposure to Covid-19. This has hugely affected the schedule of the examinations.
Speaking to NewsDay, Chikande High School teachers say that some primary school teachers invigilated the ZIMSEC Ordinary level examinations. As pay the teachers received plates of sadza. What is more disturbing is that the food for boarding student is the same that the teachers received.
A teacher from Karoi High School during an interview with NewsDay said,
“While we are not being paid for our invigilating services and are incapacitated, we are also being exposed to Covid-19. Law enforcers torment us, demanding exemption letters to allow us to proceed to schools. We do not have the letters. As a result we will boycott the invigilation duties. “
