Young Forever, Uzalo actress Babekazi ‘Duduzile Ngcobo’s real-life age shocks Mzansi.
South African actress Duduzile Ngcobo plays the role of Babekazi on Uzalo. On SABC 1 soap opera Uzalo, the Babekazi character is a controversial drunkard who has a relationship with Gabisile –the role played by Baby Cele Maloka.
In her first Uzalo stint, Babekazi logged loggerheads with Gabisile, who she accused of Khehla (Thobani Mhlongo) and his mother Nomcebo (Nombulelo Mhlongo). Her instincts were proved correct after Gabisile confessed to Qhabanga about her atrocities and strangled to death. Babekazi went on to claim insurance payout against Gabisile’s death.
Having disappeared for a while on Uzalo screens, Babekazi returned with drama and controversy. She manipulated Mbatha and convinced him to steal from Nkunzi and frame Gabisile. She was pursued by an insurance fraud investigator for the R800 000 claim she fraudulently took for Gabisile’s death.
Duduzile Ngcobo has a healthy work relationship with Stained Glass Productions, the producers of Uzalo and etv telenovela Durban Gen where she plays the role of Superintendent Nomalanga Qwabe.
Both sets of Uzalo and Durban Gen fans questioned Duduzile Ngcobo’s age after performing different ages on both soapies. On Durban Gen, Dr Qwabe is an older strict and straight personality who conducts herself more respectably. Her Babekazi role on Uzalo depicts a younger, bubbly and crooked personality who does whatever it takes to enrich herself.

In real life, Duduzile Ngcobo was born in 1967 in Lamontville, Durban Kwa-Zulu Natal; she is a mother and grandmother of three. She is a late bloomer who started professional acting at the age of forty-nine; having featured on Isithembiso and Muvhango, the Uzalo and Durban Gen roles propelled her career.
Over her filming and television career, Duduzile featured on commercial adverts, i.e. Dettol, ABSA, DSTV, MTN, TASTIC and FN. Her passion for health, coupled with her qualifications, earned her a role as the national coordinator for the National Union of Mineworkers of HIV AIDS desk in South Africa.
