South Africa’s rising actress and director Upile uThixo, who is famous for playing Poloko in Scandal’s academic qualifications are something she should be proud of. The young actress is not only beautiful and talented but also learned and holds two degrees under her academic hat. That, together with the zeal to learn many things that make up the acting and entertainment industry, has helped her stay relevant as an entertainer.
Upile’s role as Poloko in Scandal
Upile uThixo joined Scandal in March 2021, debuting her Television career while playing Poloko Mamba, a drug dealer’s daughter. Living with her mother alone and her father never helped with her livelihood. This made her vengeful against Mamba. Poloko made it her goal in life to take down her father, and she tried to do it in the polls when she ran for the same political position as him. Her exit from the series happened after her little sister was kidnapped and tortured by their stepmother for her inheritance, and after fighting to get her back, they brought the older women to justice.
Her love for theatre
Naledi Award-winning actress Upile has an extensive career in the theatre side of her acting hat with roles too many to mention. This dates back to High School when she used to act in plays together with Micayla Eretha Fillis. Nowadays, she is part of plays directed by big names in the South African theatre industry like actress Michelle Mosalakae and many more.
Upile uThixo Bongco’s academic qualifications
The actress went on to Rhodes University to pursue her Bachelor’s in Arts degree in Drama and Psychology, graduating in 2017. For her second degree, she pursued Drama again and specialised in Directing at Stellenbosch University. Upile graduated top of her class from Rhodes University with honours. Her fans were impressed when she showed off her awards on her graduation day.
According to Linked In, her professional profile states that she has been an Administrative Assistant at Ubom Eastern Cape Drama company for a year and five months. She has also taken up a job as a teacher in Grahamstown and shared the skills she had learned as their Drama teacher. According to her Instagram page, she is on the road to pursuing her PhD someday, a dream she said when she graduated from Stellenbosch University.
