Royal AM chairman Andile Mpisane and his team staged one of the most iconic celebrations in the DStv Premiership on Saturday after his team thumped Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs at Chatsworth stadium.
Amakhosi was left licking its wounds after an unexpected one-nil defeat in KZN in their season opener. A goal in the first minute was enough to secure all the points for the fairly new Durban-based side. Amakhosi failed to defend a corner and gifted Brazilian defender Ricardo Nascimento a chance to slot his attempt into the bottom right corner.
The goal caused wise cheers across Chatsworth stadium. Kaizer Chiefs failed to create meaningful chances during the game, but the hosts remained a constant threat. Nascimento was denied by a reflex save from Bruce Bvuma in the 69th minute, but his earlier goal ensured Royal AM sat comfortably in the top third of the log with Mamelodi Sundowns.
Royal AM’s title hopes
After sacking their relatively successful coach, the club hopes to challenge Sundowns for the title this season. Masandawana is favourites to clinch the premiership, but MaMkhie’s side hoped to do better than their third-place finish last season.
With a new coach and recruits, the team is not far from winning silverware in 2023. They have already tasted lifting a trophy when they beat Richards Bay to win the KZN Premier’s cup in a curtain raiser for the season.

Andile’s celebration
Andile brought a convoy of Volkswagen Golf GTI cars to display his prowess before the game. He is lining them up in the video while playing his latest track, Makwapheni.
After the match, the GTIs were captured speeding off and making noise in the streets. In a separate video, Royal AM ladies vice chairperson Tamia Mpisane was also celebrating the men’s team’s win.
