January saw Uzalo for the first time downing tools over unpaid salaries after the show producers failed to pay their actors. Alas, clarity has been restored after Uzalo actors get paid finally in time for February salaries.
To many, it came as a surprise after the hit soapie failed to pay January salaries on time. This time around the situation promises to have gone back to normal.
According to one of the actors, the payment came as a big surprise after the show recently failed to pay in time.
“I was staring on my phone, waiting for a payment notification. When I received the notification, I was relieved. Not being paid on time cost me a lot last month,” he said.

Despite the salary woes the most-watched drama series continues to bolster its cast. From bringing back old guards to bolster its cast to adding multi-millionaire Shauwn Mkhize. It seems as if Uzalo is not holding back. In the wake of these additions to the cast, Uzalo has also added Mbali Maphumulo.
Mbali Maphumulo is a South African actress who also happens to be the wife of actor Dumisani Mbebe. The seasoned actress also doubles as a singer and dancer.
It seems as if this is her rebirth to small screens after being off for years. Maphumulo is best known for her stellar performances as Amira Mokoena, a whimsical songwriter living in a fantasy world, in the e.tv drama series 4Play: Sex Tips for Girls, from 2010-2012.
Rumour has it that she will be playing Wenzile Nhlapo on the Mzansi hit soapie Uzalo. According to an insider source, the actress has already joined the cast for shooting.
“She’s already started shooting and is now based in Durban,” said a source.
“Her role is that of a no-nonsense, driven woman whose main priority is to succeed in her career. She’s settled well into the role and viewers are going to love her.”
