Uzalo Woes Deepens As Actors Down Tools Over Unpaid Salaries
Despite all the critics levelled against their boring storylines, Uzalo has managed to wow Mzansi for years. The most-watched soapie toppled SABC1 hit soapie Generations to become Mzansi most-followed drama series in Mzansi. Last year Uzalo made headlines when it broke its own record when it managed to gunner 11 million viewers before taking a slump to the now 9.8 million views.
The celebrated soapie made headlines for the wrong reasons of late from boring storylines to cancellation rumours. The battling soapie which seems to have gained its ground has suffered another knock as casts members downed tools over unpaid salaries.
We can all agree that casts members payments vary with variables such as viewership patterns, time on scenes and experience. However, despite being the most followed soapie which boasts of many celebrated actors Uzalo is one of the least paying soapies in Mzansi.
Late last year SABC had to weigh into the salary matters after Mzansi raised a red flag over the issue. It seems the intervention by SABC is failing to materialise. Rumour has it that actors have taken their grievances to the public. No doubt Uzalo woes seem to haunt them always.
Uzalo casts members seems to have spilt the tea on their salary wars. Rumour has it the cast have approached Daily Sun to expose the production over salary despondencies.
Uzalo Woes Deepens As Actors Down Tools Over Unpaid Salaries
Uzalo actors opened up about their unpaid salaries and how it’s affecting them. The actors have alleged that they were not paid their salaries last month and are not sure whether history will repeat itself. Rumour has it that due to this actors have decided to down tools.
According to the publication, the actors didn’t get their monthly salaries and are fearing that history might repeat itself. However, they did vow to return to work if their demands are met and addressed.
One of the actors who requested protection opened up about the situation.
“We have every right to be worried. We have only Uzalo as our source of income at the moment The fact they failed to pay us on time last month, which prompted a strike, means that we are not respected and taken seriously,” said the actor.
Responding to the allegations levelled to Uzalo, Uzalo’s publicist did say that the reason behind the unpaid salaries issue of last month was due to technical problems.
The salary saga bare comes in the wake of cancellation rumours. Late last year SABC pardoned Uzalo after it was rumoured that it was going to be axed. The SABC executive late last year did admit that the soapie was going through a rough patch and they concluded that it needed a chance to up their game rather than axing them. With this new development again SABC is yet to weigh into the matter with a response.
