Three new sexual assault cases: Reasons behind Katlego Maboe’s SAFTAS snub
No doubt Katlego trended the better half of last year after his private life spilt to the public domain. From there he has seen himself trending for the wrong reasons from nasty court defaults to Safta’s nominations and snubs.
However, we can all agree that the presenters booming career has taken a huge knock since his ex and baby mama, Monique Muller, accused him of being unfaithful and of physically abusing her.
In the wake of the daring allegations, Katlego actually lost it all. His fame went into the drain in a blink of an eye and he has become unpopular on Tv. The Tv presenter was axed by Expresso and lost several sponsorships and endorsements.
To make matters worse his famous ‘Changa Daai Ding’ Outsurance adverts were all removed as the Insurance company distanced themselves from him. He was even replaced by radio presenter Elana Afrika.
However, 2021 seemed to be promising after he was recognised for his stellar performances on Tv despite the drama. Social media was set ablaze when the South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAs) announced him as a nominee for Best TV Presenter, that he made an unexpected comeback.

But sadly for him, his comeback was short-lived, as just days after making the nominees list he was removed from it. No doubt his canning cause an uproar on social media. Mzansi weighed into the matter with its two cents. Why was he even nominated if they knew they would embarrass him like this?
However, entertainment commentator Phil Mphela even took a swipe of the awards after his canning. Well, it seems as if they have come up with some answers to the uproars.
According to Women For Change – a well-known gender-based violence activist organization – more information about Katlego and the SAFTs debacle has emerged.
SAFTA’s judging chairperson Janet Van Eeden explained their decision to revoke the nomination. Janet revealed that they received a lot of pressure from GBV organizations and gay organizations to remove Katlego from the category.
However, it has been established that three women have allegedly opened sexual assault cases against the presenter. In the mix of things confirmed sources has it that has he breached the protection order his ex had against him. In light of these allegations, and upon deliberation, his nomination had to be removed.
