The Mthembus: Did you know Uzalo actors Nonka and Nyawo are related in real life?
Uzalo actors Thuthuka Mthembu who plays Nonka, and Cebo Mthembu, who plays Nyawo, share the same surname; Mzansi raised questions about whether the two are related in real life.
Over the years, we have witnessed relatives and even siblings sharing the same cast on soap operas and dramas in Mzansi. The Khoza siblings of SK and his young brother Abdul are the current hottest brothers in the Mzansi film industry despite shining on different times.
Relatives who featured on Uzalo
The Uzalo set in no stranger in hiring relatives; over the storyline, Mxolisi Majozi played the supporting role of Last Number while his brother Simphiwe Majozi played Sbu as a lead actor.
Omega Mncube played the Phelelani role, where his older brother Wiseman Mncube played Sbonelo Mhlongo. The two siblings dated the same girl Nonka, with the elder brother Sbonelo marrying and divorcing her.
Like mother like son, Nompilo Maphumulo, who plays Nosipho on Uzalo, has her biological son play a role on the soapie. Luyanda Maphumulo, played the role of Nthuthuko the nagging brother to Hleziphi (Sibongiseni Shezi).
Nonka and Nyawo on Uzalo
Nonka portrays a young woman from the poor and humble Xulu family of KwaMashu. Her role motivates and uplifts young girls in South Africa to testify that your background does not determine the future. Despite all the hardships she encountered, poverty, early marriage and divorce, Nonka went back to school and excelled in her studies; she became the first Xulu to graduate in the family.
Nyawo, on the other hand, plays a crooked police officer who is on a criminal’s payroll; despite his superiors knowing how corrupt he is, they are yet to find evidence to nail him. Nyawo recently won the prize money on KwaMashu Talent Show and was invited to the South Africa National Spelling Bee competition.
In real life, the two Mthembu’s Thuthuka (Nonka) and Cebo (Nyawo) are related. Cebo is Thuthuka’s uncle, a cousin brother to her father. Though Nonka grew up with a single mother and an absent father, she still highly respects her paternal relatives.
