Tanzania covid-19 test kits test positive on goat, pawpaw: Tanzania President John Magufuli has expressed his dissatisfaction on test kits delivered to his country after the test kits tested positive on a goat and pawpaw fruit.
Magufuli was speaking at an event in Chato in the north west of Tanzania. He did not give details about the manufacturer of the kits or the country the kits were manufactured in.
“There is something happening. I said before we should not accept that every aid is meant to be good for this nation. The test kits should be investigated,” Magufuli fumed.
The test kits are rumoured to have been made in China. Rapit test kits have been reported to be unreliable. The lab test is the most reliable method of testing covid-19. Countries such as Netherlands, Italy, United States and other African countries returned faulty test kits to China as they were showing false positives and false negatives. It is positive that the Tanzania test kits that tested positive on goats and pawpaw are from China.
He recently came under fire for asking Tanzanians to continue gathering in churches and claiming coronavirus cannot enter the house of God. He encouraged Tanzanians to pray about the pandemic in their number without observing WHO guidelines on social distancing.
Magufuli is often critisized for his strongman approach to governance as he sometimes disregard the will of the people.
Tanzania currently has 280 covid-19 cases, 167 recoveries and 18 deaths without counting the cases that tested positive using test kits that tested positive on goats and pawpaw
Meanwhile Magufuli announced that he will send a plane to Madagascar to collect Covid Organics, an untested medicine that was approved by Madagascar President Andry Rajoelina as a covid-19 cure. WHO dismissed the medicine as unproven and warned against use of untested medicine.
