South Africans Demand The Closure Of Beitbridge Border Post With Immediate Effect
The closure of the Zimbabwean Side at the Beitbridge border post by the Zimbabwean Government has worsened the situation. The situation has reached a boiling point as scores of Zimbabweans are still stranded at the Beitbridge- Musina border post.
Videos circulating paint a grim picture and the lack of protection against Covid-19 is worrying. Thousands have been zoned at the busiest inland border post since Sunday. The situation has deteriorated after Zimbabwean authorities closed down the entry and exit of informal dealers.
Lack of proper adherence to Covid-19 precaution measures has forced the South African Government to weigh into the situation. Failure to produce valid Covid-19 test documents and proper documents has even worsened the movement at the border.
In response the ever-increasing number of illegal border jumpers the South African government has deployed the arm of the law to patrol along the Limpopo River.
Thousands of Zimbabweans have been arrested and many several have seen their attempt to enter Mzansi being turned down.
South Africans Demand The Closure Of Beitbridge Border Post With Immediate Effect
Many Zimbabweans are deserting country for South Africa in a bid to make a better living, with a new harsh lockdown in place, Zimbabweans feel they can make a better living in South Africa.
The situation has also caused tension on social media with South Africans calling for a closure of the border.
Our health care system won’t cope if these people are allowed back, we are in the middle of a Pendemic and South African tavellers have been banned even in Countries like
Nigeria. For once this Government must put the interest of Citizens first #CloseBeitbridgeBorder pic.twitter.com/B9tRWz6NMB— Lerato Pillay (@Lerato_Pillay) January 5, 2021
Lerato Pillay also added : “What is happening at beitbridge is nonsense. SA is under level 3 lockdown and we are even arrested for not wearing a mask, But Zim illegal alliens are galloping without any social distancing or masks, Zimbabweans are the ones who can fix their own country
#CloseBeitbridgeBorder ”
South Africans seem to be buying the notion of closing the border for their own safety concerns. The #CloseBeitbridgeBorder has since gained momentum and seems to be trending. The hashtag comes in the backdrop of the lack of Covid-19 PPeE especially masks and social distancing at the border post.
The general feeling amongst South Africans is that little is being done to curb the spread of the virus.
A mother of all civil wars is looming, South Africans will never surrender their country to aliens. There will be blood on the floor, watch the space. #CloseBeitbridgeBorder
