Last week SAB revealed that they risk throwing away more than 130 million liters of beer. They also revealed that they were still in talks with the government to be allowed transportation of beer to their depots.
In its report, South African Breweries (SAB) outline the dangers of destroying beer. They mentioned potential job losses and tax loses to the government inform of excise taxes. Among other reasons, environmental impact of throwing beer away was highlighted.

Beer sales and transportation continues to be restricted unless it’s for export purposes. South Africans continue to quench their thirsty with homemade pineapple beer resulting in an increased pressure on pineapple demand.
Government allows transportation of beer
On Monday afternoon, The South African Breweries (SAB) said it had agreed on a way forward with the government to safely transport its packaged inventory. Both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks will be moved from manufacturing plants to depots for storage.

SAB said on Monday that warehouses at SAB’s seven breweries were now at full capacity and unable to absorb any further inventory, which effected any current beer in the production process being bottled and stored, culminating in the destruction and disposal of the inventory.
