Early Life and Career
Subsequent to her parents’ divorce as a young girl, Sho Madjozi was primarily raised by her mother. Madjozi has half-sisters from both her mother’s and father’s sides. While her father, Marc Wegerif, traveled recurrently in particular regions of the continent, Madjozi had a chance to travel with him. Following her high school graduation at the International School of Tanganyika in Tanzania, Madjozi gets a scholarship to Mount Holyoke College, USA to learn creative writing and African Studies. It is here that she starts writing poems under as MayaThePoet. Her poems contain politics, individuality, and race. Sho Madjozi later returns to South Africa. She takes up fellowship in studying at the University of South Africa, Johannesburg while planning to be a songwriter for local artists. She eventually commences rapping and composing music as “Sho Madjozi”.
Rise to fame
She rises to eminence after her collaboration with rapper Okmalumkoolkat on the song “Ngiyashisa Bhe” and the hit single “Gqi”. Sho Madjozi, the age of 24, in April 2017, makes her television appearance as one of the casts in the drama Isithembiso. She plays Tsakane Mboweni (a character passionately involved in student politics), for the initial season.
