He has the plug and the bling too. Of late, he has been making all sorts of headlines with his unmatched talent on our small screens. No doubt he has fast become one of Mzansi’s finest of late.
Nkanyiso Mchunu is a seasoned South African actor best known for his on-screen character Nkululeko on etv’s drama series Imbewu: The Seed. No doubt the death of Zimele Ngcolisi Bhengu on Imbewu thrust Mchumu into the limelight.
Of late, he has become the face of the drama series after its starstudded cast dropped the drama series in the eleventh hour. But it’s a well-known fact that since his debut, he has brought about an exciting twist to Imbewu, and fans are here for it.
Mchumu has wowed Mzansi with his cunning, ambitious flair on-screen. He is taking on the role flawlessly. The actor is on his A-game and has no intention of stopping anytime soon.

Just like those before him, his thrust into the limelight wasn’t picturing perfect. His first big shot to small screens came in the backdrop of a gig on Muvhango.
On the SABC 2 Venda drama series, the seasoned actor played the on-screen character of Sizwe. A few months later, the actor bagged a cameo role on Ingozi. His flair saw him guest-starring in the sitcom Skwizas.
Years later, he bagged a lead role on Soul City before being famed with voiceovers for ABSA commercials and featured MTN ads before landing a role in Imbewu in 2019.
He was cast on Imbewu as an outcast from the Bhengu Family. He found it hard to find a seat in his own family after not being in the picture for years. However, he later turned out to be the heir of the family.
“Joining this growing daily drama series is overwhelming and working with all the talent that Imbewu has to offer is just a dream come true”, says Mchunu.
Of late, many questions have been asked about how much the actor gets paid for his on-screen character. We can all agree that he is one of the most paid star actors, given his illustrious career that spans decades. For his Nkululeko character, Nkanyiso Mchunu is paid between R65 000 and R70 000 per month. However, one should note that actors’ salaries depend on experience, time on scenes and role prominence.
