Yet another suspension has taken place at the SABC over a radio presenter dancing on furniture in the studio. This time its Putco Mafani.
Putco Mafani is a veteran at the SABC, and he rejoined Umhlobo Wenene in April 2021 as a sports analyst.
Putco is experienced in the world of sport, including marketing and communications. He used to be a public relations officer for Kaizer Chiefs, one of the most respected football clubs in South Africa.
This is where we found out about his skills and love for dancing. Putco became very famous for breaking out in a Kwasa Kwasa dance when the club won.
Putco joined the Nkao Tempela challenge, and in the circulating video, he is seen dancing on top of a studio desk with equipment behind him.
The public broadcaster suspended him, and he had been off-air since Friday, 21st 2022. The SABC had also confirmed that his actions had led to him being unscheduled until the 28th of January.
Putco Mafani issued an apology for his actions
Putco has officially apologized for his actions, saying he is sorry for allowing himself to be taken by the Tempa challenge.
“I know it sounds weird, but I am sorry for allowing myself to be swept by the exciting wave of the Tempa Dance at work. A dance which in many cases is done on various surfaces, and I did that in the studio on top of a desk which was unacceptable. Mr Mafani wrote.
He went on to acknowledge that his actions overlooked essential safety regulations. He said he could have handled his excitement differently.
Mr Mafani also wrote, “A sincere word of apology goes to the management and colleagues for letting them down. This is highly regrettable.”
On Monday, we reported that the SABC reinstated Dineo Ranaka, and she is now back on The Bridge.
Feel. The response to these suspensions is net with mixed reactions from the public. Many feel that the entertainers are irresponsible for not following protocol, and some think that a suspension is harsh and unnecessary.
