Mamelodi Sundowns could face the PSL Disciplinary Committee for deliberately picking up four yellow cards in their recent league clash against Bloemfontein Celtic.
Sundowns have come under the spotlight after Hlompho Kekana, Gaston Sirino, Sibusiso Vilakazi and Mosa Lebusa – all on three yellow cards at the time – appeared to get booked on purpose in the 2-1 victory over Celtic so that they would be strategically be suspended for the Nedbank Cup last 16 clash with VUT last Sunday – which the Brazilians won 2-0.
FIFA rules stipulate that getting booked on purpose is an offence and PSL prosecutor Nande Becker has confirmed he is awaiting the match commissioner and referee’s report before deciding whether the PSL will take action or not.
“I have requested the match commissioner and referee’s report,” Becker told the media.
“I am waiting for it. I will look at it before deciding the next step.”
The FIFA disciplinary conduct Chapter two 12.1 (d) states:
Players and officials shall be suspended for misconduct as specified below and may be fined accordingly.
At least one match for deliberately receiving a yellow or red card, e.g. in order to be suspended for an upcoming match and to ultimately have a clean record.
