KwaZulu Natal was full of activity after a diamond rush in KwaHlathi. With the DMRE team already at KwaHlathi Mzansi awaits confirmation if the stones are really diamonds.
However, the task team dispatched by the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE) is set to determine whether diamonds have indeed been discovered at KwaHlathi in KwaZulu-Natal.
The team is already conducting its preliminary tests. However, rumour has it they are still doing some tests with a detailed report slated for next week. Despite the ongoing tests residents of the town outside Ladysmith has it that they struck proverbial gold after discovering diamonds.
In the wake of the diamond rush, some news outlets have it that the community might have stumbled across a heap of raw quartz.

KZN Premier Sihle Zikalala called for calm after masses descended on the “diamond”-rich area. In the wake of the third wave, the Premier has edged people to displace from the area. He has it that in the wake of the wave the diamond rush can be a super-spreader.

However, Quartz is used in Swiss watches and is often used in electronic equipment. White quartz fetches around $2 (R28) a carat, with purple and pink quartz sometimes being sold for up to $15. If quartz crystals are found completely intact, they are worth more than those with cracks or fissures.
