MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa suggested political activist Patson Dzamara was poisoned by state security agents after he had become a problem for the Zanu PF government to handle.

Speaking at Dzamara’s funeral Chamisa said, “I spent five years in Cabinet but never drank tea there until Mugabe asked me who had told me he was a witch. I even avoided the 9 am tea-break and told (Tendai) Biti and Prime Minister Tsvangirai what they were doing was dangerous. Tsvangirai would laugh it off, saying I would die of hunger but I knew these people,” said President Chamisa. Some people might say it was just cancer but no. I have even told Hopewell Chin’ono and Job Sikhala not to eat any of the prison food but to stay strong no matter what because they will die if they consume that food,”
Patson Dzamara and former Prime Minister and opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai died of colon cancer.

Dzamara was protesting over his missing brother Itai who was abducted by suspected state security agents and remains unaccounted to this day. He was a member of the MDC Alliance opposition party. He died of colon cancer after USD 14,000 was raised by well wishers to fund his medical expenses.
