The Woman King has been making headlines ever since the year started and it’s still only shooting. The film, which has been developed since 2018, has announced that some of the best international actors will be joining the epic movie. South African actress Masali Baduza joins The Woman King cast also.
The film is inspired by events that transpired in the Kingdom of Dahomey, which is called Benin nowadays. It was one of the strongest Kingdoms in Africa in The 18th century. International actress Viola Davis and South African actress Thuso Mbedu will play the leading roles. The storyline will follow them as Nanisca and Nawi, respectively.
The character that Masali will portray is not yet announced to the public. Nanisca, who Viola Davis will portray, is a General in the military. Nawi is a recruit in the army. These two women will be fighting enemies who would have colonised and taken their people into slavery.

Masali is a Capetown born and bred actress. She attended New York Film Academy at the Los Angeles campus for college. Ever since she graduated, most of her roles were in theatre. Her Television break happened when she got a role in the South African crime thriller Trackers. She was named a rising talent in 2019 by The Royal Television Society and one to watch in 2020.
Masali is currently known for her performance in the BBC historical drama series Noughts and Crosses. The drama is set in a period just after The Great War when Europe was still recovering, and racial segregation was still in place. In the drama, she is one of the wealthy African descents known as the Crosses. She is the daughter of a politician called Sephy Hadley. She plays against Jack Rowan, who takes on the role of Callum McGregor, who is a nought army cadet and her childhood friend.
