MDC Alliance female activists arrested
Three MDC A female activists were arrested yesterday.The trio were protesting , demanding the release of Job Sikhala and Allan Moyo.
The activists Joanna Mamombe, Netsai Marova and Cecilia Chimbiri were arrested on charges of using abusive and obscene language on officers the Zimbabwe Republic Police reports. The Zimbabwe Republic Police released a press statement.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of Joanna Mamombe, Netsai Marova and Cecilia Chimbiri in Harare today after a flash demonstration outside the New Government Complex. The trio were in Toyota Fortuner without number plates. They followed a police vehicle with officers who had attended the scene. The ladies used abusive and obscene language on the officers thus leading to their arrest,” said Assistant Commissioner Nyathi.

Netsai Marova was later released without charge. The Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights representing the female politicians said that Mamombe and Chimbiri were charged with obstructing police officers preforming duty during lockdown.
“Allegations are that they shouted at police officers saying do not arrest them, release them in Shona, saying police should not arrest people as they will infect them with Covid-19,” the lawyers said.
A few opposition activists took part in Monday’s protest outside the ministry of justice, demanding the release of party vice chairperson Job Sikhala and Allan Moyo.
