Master KG honoured with an African Artist Recognition Award at the 2020 Headies
Last night, the Jerusalema hit maker Master KG was awarded the African Artist Recognition Award at the 14th edition of the Headies Awards. The Headies are a Nigerian music awards show held to recognize outstanding achievements in the Nigerian music industry. At the previous awards show, The 13th eddition, King Promise of Ghana had scooped the award ahead of Master KG and Dj Maphorisa. At the 14th award show, Master KG landed the award ahead of Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale, Sauti Sol and Kuami Eugene.

Master KG was well deserving of the award considering the outstanding work he put in 2020. His biggest song ever, Jerusalema, was highly streamed, attracted a worldwide dance challenge and impacted the lives of African people. When the Covid 19 pandemic caused great fear in people, ‘Jerusalema’ consoled everyone. Throughout 2020, Master KG made collaborations which uplifted other artists the likes of Nomcebo Zikode, Mr Brown and Makhadzi. His sound is cross cultural and appealing to all ages. With the Jerusalema Deluxe album out, he is set to solidify his position as a world class artist.

The 2020 Headies awards were previously scheduled for December 2020, but the date was moved to 21 February due to the Covid-19 outbreak. They were held at La Campagne Tropicana Beach Resort in Ibeju-Lekki. Bovi, the comedian and Nancy Isina an actress and TV personality were the presenters of the show. Bovi was hosting the show for the fourth time while Nancy Isina became the first female to host the show twice.
The nominees were announced on the 4th of December 2020 with Fireboy DML leading with nine nominations. Davido and Wurld followed with seven nominations each, while Burna boy the reigning Artiste of the Year secured six nominations. See the full list of the winners below;
