Man murdered after a heated debate during a friendly diski match
A man was shot dead on Sunday at Barberton Provincial Hospital. The man had taken two gunshot victims to the hospital. The Mpumalanga Police confirms the murder.
The police reports that two cars brought victims of gunshot wounds to the hospital after an argument between two teams at a soccer friendly match. Supporters of the other team went to one of the cars and set it on fire after killing the driver.
“On arrival, they found the gate locked and decided to jump over the fence. After seeing that the casualty ward was also locked and packed with police, they went back to the parking area. They shot the driver who had escorted the victims. The group went on to set his car on fire,” MEC for health Sasekani Manzini reports to Sowetan.
Manzini also thanks the police for ensuring the safety of the health officials present at the hospital. She also adds that the situation is calm as the police is patrolling around the hospital.

“It is very heartbreaking that our people are taking the law into their hands whenever there are problems. This behaviour is not acceptable. The incident seriously affected our staff and patients. We want to plead with our communities that they should not forcefully enter health facilities and seek revenge.”
“We thank the South African Police Services for their swift response on the incident and for handling the situation quite well,” she said.
Spokesperson of the Mpumalanga Police col Donald Mdhluli reports that the police is now investigating a case of murder and malicious damage of property. On top of that the police is also investigating two cases of attempted murder on the the two victims bought to the hospital by the deceased driver.
