It’s another rainy day for podcaster and influencer, MacG as Gaming company, SupaBets suspends their relationship with him.
MacG is a South African podcaster who hosts popular podcast “Podcast and Chill” which has aired more than 200 episodes and has enjoyed the sponsorship of Old Mutual until recently. It is unclear what the spark that pulled the plug on MacG’s deal with SupaBets is. For one, the podcaster made some homophobic remarks that left a bitter taste on brands’ mouths, brands including Old Mutual. Secondly, in a podcast following the homophobic remark, MacG stated that people shouldn’t think that because Old Mutual has pulled out they are now financially stranded because they still have SupaBets’ funding.
It ends in tears as SupaBets suspends MacG
SupaBets was in a deal with MacG whereby they licensed his content for SupaTV. However, the company has suspended all airing of his content following the latest debacles MacG has found himself involved in.
MacG has been in the news for the past few weeks for all the wrong reasons. In January, MacG made a few transphobic remarks that resulted in Old Mutual terminating their sponsorship of his podcast. During the podcast, MacG referred to transphobic individuals as shemales and that resulted in a very ugly fight. A lot of individuals called him out on it. On that list was Thando Thabethe who said, “Discrimination in the guise of being “raw & unfiltered” wish I could unsee that MacG podcast. Disgusted!”
Although the homophobic comment had been swept under the carpet, MacG continues to shoot himself in the foot costing himself and his podcast funding. While MacG apologized for his transphobic comment, he went on to bash Thando Thabethe for her comments. The podcaster spoke about cancel culture and its inconsistency. MacG said it’s unfair that individuals such as Thando Thabethe spoke up against when he was under fire but will choose to remain silent when DJ Fresh and Euphonik are being accused of rape.
“What is Thando Thabooty doing? I ran across her podcast numbers the other day. I wish I could unsee that. It’s horrible. Black Friday does better numbers. It shows nobody wants to hear what she is gonna say. Just take your nudes and post them on Instagram, nobody wants to hear what you say. ”
However, on the bright side of 2021 for MacG, the content creator was selected for YouTube’s content creator program earlier this year alongside Kay Yarns and Lasizwe among other content creators.
