South African influencers make #YouTubeBlackVoices Artist Class of 2021

Finally YouTube comes through for content creators around the world! YouTube as shortlisted 132 Content Creators  for the inaugural #YouTubeBlackVoices program which kicks off this year.

Nicolette #YouTubeBlackVoices The program comes as a massive open door for content creators across the world.

Kay Yarms #YouTubeBlackVoices With 21 of the shortlisted content creators being African. Representing South Africa is beauty and lifestyle vlogger Kay Yarms, Lasizwe Dambuza, Nicolette Mashile, MacG, Ofentse and Nelisiwe Mwase, Owami Hlongwane, Thato Rampedi and Naledi Monamodi.

Selected content creators include music artists, photographers, lifestyle vloggers, personal trainers among others. Nigeria and Kenya are also part of the countries that are represented by the 21 content creators who have been accepted for the program.

 

With capital of $100mill from the #YouTubeBlackVoices Fund that was launched last year, YouTube aims to uplift more than 500 content creators by 2023. Content Creators were invited to apply for the #YouTubeBlackVoices funding in October 2020.

Each participant will get an undisclosed amount to develop their YouTube account. Content creators will have the freedom to decide how the money will be used, be it to buy lighting and filming equipment or to hire talent, it is entirely up to them.

The programme also involves an intensive incubator programme that is set to last 3 weeks with Bespoke training, workshops and networking programmes. The ultimate opportunity!

YouTube is currently focused on uplifting black content creators across the world as highlighted by VP of Content Partnerships at YouTube, Malik Ducard. Ducard stated that, “The #YouTubeBlackvoices community is filled with so many passionate, creative, talented and brilliant artists and entrepreneurs. These creators and artists have been doing this work already and are known by their communities, but we’re really excited to invest in them, and we believe that they can and will become household names with this support.”

A notable development by YouTube that will definitely uplift content creators world wide.
