Is Benni McCarthy the next Orlando Pirates coach?
Since the former Orlando Pirates Coach Josef Zinnebauer resigned, rumors surrounding his replacement have been circulating. Despite having a good win record the coach decided to hang his boots. The main reason he left is not clear but some fans are delighted he left the role. These blame him for the poor form of results lately and think it was time. On the other hand, some portion of the fans feel that he was doing a good job and just needed more time to assemble the perfect squad.
These fans blame the players and believe the squad needs some more quality players. A lot of names have been circulating for the vacant job but Benni McCarthy is an interesting candidate. Although Benni is currently coaching Durban based PSL team, AmaZulu turning down an offer to coach a big team like Orlando Pirates seems difficult. Also the fact that he played for them might be an honor.
Benni McCarhty has been doing a great job at AmaZulu and in April some Bafana Bafana fanatics were pushing for him to get the job to coach the national team. Being the South Africa national team’s all time top goal scorer is an achievement many envy him for. Also Benni’s Cv as a player is incredible. He has won the most prestigious trophy the EUFA Champions League trophy whilst he was playing for Porto. The fact that he is the only South African to do so is something else.

He has also played European football and has been coached by the best coaches in the world. Many believe this experience has taught him enough to improve the Pirates. Benni played in the Netherlands for Ajax, the moved to Spain to play for Celta Vigo. This transfer made him the most expensive South African Player at the time.
He then moved to Porto where he did wonders and helped the team win the Champions League. Benni’s time in Portugal was his best because he won the golden boot and has some memorable moments at the team. He played in England for West Ham United and Blackburn Rovers. The top striker retired at Orlando Pirates. His career as a manager seem to be going pretty well with him being linked to big roles like the Bafana Bafana coaching role and currently the Orlando Pirates one.
