In Pictures, Mzansi threatens to boycott The Wife as Mondli Makhoba and Zikhona Sodlaka leave the show.
The Wife broke many records as the most-watched show when its first season first premiered. This show was one close to people’s hearts as it is based on books loved in South African literature. Many viewers had read The Zulu wives book series and had asked for the books to be turned into a show. When they finally got their way, everyone was impressed by the cast chosen for the roles.
The first season ended with a bang, but the second one had many people complaining. Firstly, the production team deviated from the books’ original stories, which did not sit well with fans. Fans complains about Khanyi Mbau playing Zandile but were pleasantly surprised as she aced her role. However, the storyline was very different from the books which the actress addressed herself.
After the end of the season, two viewers were confident the coming seasons would be a flop. However the production crew took a break and announced that the third season will start in August. Fans were thrilled, thinking the gap was for the crew to give the viewers what they want. In the wake of the break, Mbalenhle Mavimbela, who plays Hlomu, has been announced as not returning for the third season.
Mondli Makhoba and Zikhona Sodlaka won’t be returning for season 3
While fans still complain about how a lead character like Hlomu will be replaced or explained, more heartbreaking news comes their way. According to entertainment news commentator Phil Mpela, Mondli Makhoba will not be returning for the third season as he is leaving the show. As the fans try to digest the news, they learn that Zikhona Sodlaka is also leaving.
Tweeps, have been complaining since the news reached them as they feel let down by the producers. Some are threatening to stop watching the show altogether. Viewers have been calling out for the show to be cancelled as many of their favourite actors are leaving. Many are foretelling that the show’s third season will flop because of this.
Zikhona Sodlaka had an award nomination at the Viewers Choice awards because of her role as Mandisa. While Mondli Makhoba now has a clothing line under his nickname Bhuti omdala that he earned from his role. These actors made the show with their castmates, and it’s painful to see them leave. However, some fans think this is the producer’s way of aligning the show to the book series.
