Gomora actress Buhle ‘Ama Qamata’s age gets Mzansi talking
South African young actress Ama Qamata plays the dual roles of Buhle on Gomora and Puleng on the Netflix drama series Blood and Water. Ama became an instant television hit after joining the Gomora cast in 2020 when the Mzansi Magic telenovela premiered.
On Gomora, Ama Qamata plays the role of Buhle Ndaba, the daughter of Mbongeni and Thathi. Buhle and her brother Langa’s lives, took a u-turn after their father was murdered in a botched car hijacking ordeal. The grieving siblings had an uphill task to adapt to new life in Gomora Township, an opposite lifestyle to their previous Sandton life. She lived with an expectation that sooner or later, she would enjoy her soft life again.
Over the Gomora storyline, Buhle saw her grandmother persecuted over her father’s murder, and the death of her brother Langa delivered a fatal blow.
She has a crush on Ntokozo that failed to materialize into a relationship. Buhle returned to her lavish life after her mother moved in and subsequently married Phumlani, her late father’s younger brother. During Thathi and Phumlani’s wedding, Buhle met her half-sister Gugu for the first time and after episodes of disappointments and frowning; the two embraced each other like real sisters. Gomora fans expressed their eagerness to see what the combination of two different personalities of Buhle and Gugu will produce.

Ama Qamata has played two lead roles as a school going teenager, always donning her school uniform; she revealed that she is not a teen anymore. She was born on 2 September 1998 (24 years old), way older than her seventeen-year-old onscreen role on Gomora. Though she is older than she looks onscreen, Ama Qamata is proud of her acting achievements so far.
