Shonisani Masutha has always had a knack for acting and performing on Television. She has come to realize that the South African industry is not a big enough platform for performers who are Venda speaking. However, she has tried her hand in other businesses and is thriving in them. Let’s take a look at Shonisani Masutha’s business empire.
When Shonisani was very young, she charged people to watch her sing the national anthem. She went to college and got herself a Theatre and Performance degree. She enrolled in the London Academy Music Drama Art programme, which landed her a role on Small Talk. However, she decided to pursue a post-graduate diploma specializing in Marketing. The course led her to an internship in the corporate world.
Shonisani Masutha made history when she earned a lead role in a Bollywood movie called Mehek. She became the first African woman to earn a lead role in an Indian film. For Shonisani, it was her first lead role on Television. Her first Television role was when she played a Xhosa girl named Nandi in the movie On The Ropes.

Mehet was not the only International Television production that she has worked on. She also got to work with the likes of Jill Flint and Mark Feuerstein on the set of Royal Pains USA. She has had a fair share of jobs for a Venda girl from South Africa who thought the industry was land roles. When asked, Shonisani says that acting on Muvhango, Ring of Lies and Isithembiso have been some of the highlights of her career. The actress was named one of the four actresses that Pearl Thusi dubbed to be big things in the first-ever Cosmopolitan Netflix issue last year.
Besides all the actress’s acting gigs, she is also an entrepreneur at heart. She started her own brand of braiding hair called Shonisani braid in collaboration with Afrotex SA. Apart from the braids, she also launched her own line of sunglasses which she called Shonisunnies. The entertainer also works part-time at her father’s company as a social media manager.
