In Pictures, Durban Gen actress ‘Matron Madondo’ Phumzile Mlangeni’s age and business empire stun Mzansi.
Matron Madondo has been taking over the position of Matron Nkabinde in Durban Gen. The nurses have been working on more strict rules under her management with no room for laziness or time to gossip as they did before. However, with the return of Nkabinde in the middle of a crisis, Madondo’s job may be under threat.
Phumzile Mlangeni takes on the role of Matron Madondo with so much ease and craft. However, her role was designed to make her look younger than her actual age. The actress has her youthful looks to thank for being able to portray someone younger than she is. However, Phumzile was born on 25 March 1978, making her 44 years of age. By looking at her face alone, one would think that the actress is in her thirties.
Phumzile can be termed a typecast actress in the industry because even if the characters she takes on are not similar, they have identical behaviour traits. She likes to play characters with a sense of dominance, and a good example is her character as Fihliwe in Uzalo. Mlangeni portrayed Khathaza’s sister, who did not hesitate to punish anyone who double-crossed her. Her character was wise and intelligent but did not have any sympathy. The same sense of dominance is shown in her character as Madondo, where she runs the nurses on a tight leash with no room for disobedience or dilly-dallying.
Phumzile Mlangeni’s business empire and age get Mzansi talking
The Durban Gen actress’ list of acting roles is longer than some actors in the industry. After starting her acting career with the role in Family Bonds of Buyi Vilakazi in 2007 she rose in the silver screen. She has more significant roles in her career like Nomusa in eHostela, Aunty Dorah in Gomora, Lisbeth in The Queen and Nomzamo in The Republic.
Besides acting Phumzile Mlangeni also works for Kasie radio station as a host. She has her shows that play traditional songs, make funeral announcements and gospel music on Saturdays, Thursdays and Sundays. On top of that, she is a gifted traditional dancer who danced with the uBuhle Bentsha cultural group.
