Hungani Ndlovu, who is popularly known for his role as the second Tbose Maputla in Skeem Saam, said that top tier South African actors can earn between R150 000 to R200 000 a month before deductions. This statement was made in response to entertainment commentator Phil Mphela’s post on Twitter, who revealed that top tier actors in South Africa can earn between R150 000 to R200 000 per month.

According to Mphela, experience still trumps role prominence in South Africa. The margin of R150k to R200k per month is reserved for select actors who have been in the industry for some time. Being a lead doesn’t guarantee everybody those figures. In response, Ndlovu revealed that top tier South African actors don’t receive the R150k to R200k amount after deductions.
Soapie Fans’ Reactions
Soapie fans weighed in on the actors’ earnings on Twitter. One user, @Lesego_Disipi, commented that if that’s the case, actors go home around R85k to R95k which is not bad. Another user, @lerrykins_, asked for the top 5 actors in the country and guessed Siyabonga Twala, Sindi Dlathu, Leleti Khumalo, Tony Kgoroge, Sello Maake-ka Ncube and Connie Ferguson. User @MrLekgowaTshepo mentioned that apparently Muvhango pays well when compared to other soapies.
