Thuli Thabethe trends after bagging late Lurayi’s on-screen character on Scandal. In the wake of late actress Busi Lurayi’s untimely death, Scandal has since confirmed that Thuli Thabethe will plug the gap. However, this comes after the late bubbly actress died whilst part of Scandal’s cast. The showrunners have confirmed that Thabethe will join the drama series as Busi’s replacement.
Award-winning actress Lurayi, who starred as Me’Shell on e.tv’s drama series, died in July. However, in the wake of his untimely death, Mzansi is yet to confirm the causes of her death. Reports have it that she was found dead at her flat in Edenvale, east of Johannesburg, by her father, Freddy Mokoena. Her untimely death came barely after she dumped The Wife in the eleventh hour.
Of interest is that the two were not only friends but co-casts on some drama series. This is not the first time for Thabethe to take over Lurayi’s on-screen character. In an SABC1 sitcom City Ses’la, Thabethe took over the role of Phumzile when Lurayi left.
Thuli Thabethe cast as Me’Shell replacing the late Busi Lurayi in Scandal
Despite joining Scandal, she was yet to make her debut. However, the drama series producer has finally opened up on her role and what to expect from the drama series. Sanele Zulu revealed that bubbly actress Thabethe had been roped in to complete Lurayi’s final act.
“Her close friend and fellow actor Thuli Thabethe stepped in to take over Me’Shell’s remaining scenes which will be seen later in September. We reached out to Thuli to see the story through. This was a big ask but Thuli accepted it with great compassion and she did a great job with the remaining scenes. We are grateful to Thuli for her support” said Zulu.
The bubbly actress Thabethe will make her debut on 2 September. In the mix of things, the actress has since weighed into her new role. She has it that she feels honoured to be the understudy to such a prolific and talented artist.
“I always said the rest of us would put in the work and act but Busi would become the character. Stepping into the character of Me’Shell, who had been played by Busi, I knew that I would have big shoes to fill. I am thankful for the opportunity from Scandal! and e.tv for entrusting in my ability to continue with the work she started. I am honoured and blessed” she said.
