Bukamina Cebekhulu is a South African actress who plays Gugu on popular SABC 2 series Muvhango; Imani’s older cousin who is seemingly unlucky in love. Since joining the show her character has grown and she has established a huge fan base.
Gugu, the character played by Bukamina was supposed to feature on the show for three months but viewers liked her so much that the character stayed on. 1. 33 year old Bukamina was born in Kwazulu Natal and moved to Johannesburg in 2008 to study.
2. She studied Live Performance and Production Design at AFDA and she graduated in 2010/2011.
3. The talented actress has been working in TV production for the past six to seven years
4. Bukamina went on to work as a production assistant for ATTV productions (Gospel Classics, Karektas) and then joined Stemberg Television (Noot vir Noot) where she was a production co-ordinator.
5. This is where she was working when she auditioned for Muvhango, a show she grew up watching.
6. She’s had small roles on two shows prior to working on Muvhango namely; iNkaba and SABC1’s Duma Ndlovu drama Ingozi, which led to her landing Gugu.
7. Bukamina heard about the auditions while filming on Ingozi, she auditioned and that is how she landed her big break.
8. “Gugu” and fellow actress Zonke, who plays Imani are great friends on and off the set.
