When it comes to viewership, Gomora is without doubt the most watched programme on DSTV as recent stats revealed.
Numbers never lie and numbers have stated that with a viewership of 1,34 million viewers for its December most watched episode, Gomora is leading the pack and deservedly so. The soapie was also voted most watched soapie in the recently held Black Twitter awards. Producer, Lulu Hela gave her mini appreciation tweet.
Gomora started last year brought in a very beautiful balance in its cast, the young and upcoming such as Siphesihle Ndaba who plays Mazet as well as the older actors who have been on our screens for a while, Zolisa Xaluva, Katlego Danke, Sanah Mchunu and Connie Chiume. The soapie has brought in a fresh and realistic perspective to life in the ghetto and the criminal life.
Gomora still DSTV’s most watched programme!
Not to mention addressing real life issues such as parenting, alcoholism, revenge porn and abuse among other issues. With a good dose of humor, Teddy and his mother have kept viewers giggling and amused. Teddy and Langa brought up one of the most intense and emotional scenes on TV in December that had viewers SBWLing.
Gomora introduced a number of new actors to Mzansi who have been nothing but outstanding. Siphesihle Ndaba became a fast favorite with her tough girl hijacking stunts. Sicelo Buthelezi with the humor has been nothing but a fan favourite. Ntobeko Sishi has probably had some of the most difficult scenes but he continuously hit them out the park.
It hasn’t been all roses on Mzansi Magic though as Isibaya’s viewership dipped to the extent of the show being canceled. This was partly attributed to favourite characters leaving the show. The show is set to be replaced by Diepsloot which stars Uzalo’s Thandeka Dawn King.
